The publisher of the widely-referenced university rankings the UK-based Times Higher Education (THE) has announced the World’s University Rankings on Wednesday, 12 October 2022. According to the results, 1,799 universities from 104 countries managed to appear on the said rankings. Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) has maintained its place in the 501-600 band, to which EMU climbed from the 801-1000 band last year. Oxford University ranked first in THE World University Rankings, followed by Harvard University. Cambridge University and Stanford University shared the third place.
EMU Ranks Second in Turkey
Having achieved the highest number of student placement rate from the Republic of Turkey within the last 15 years with a figure of 93.72% according to 2022 Higher Education Institutions Exam results, EMU appears within the second highest band among Turkish universities that have succeeded in entering THE World University Rankings. In the list featuring 21 Turkish universities in total, Sabancı University, Koç University and Çankaya University ranked first in the 401-500 band, whilst EMU and METU shared the second place in the 501-600 band. Two universities from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) also entered the list. EMU once again ranked first in the TRNC, as it does every year. While 5 universities were included in the list across the island of Cyprus, EMU ranked second among these universities, climbing up one place compared to the previous year.
EMU's Rise in World Rankings Continues
EMU, also included in the impact rankings of universities according to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals announced by THE, has increased the 69.4 points it received last year to 79.5, and succeeded in moving to the 201-300 band from the 301-400 band with a serious momentum. In addition, THE ranking of the world’s best young universities that started education within the last 50 years was announced by THE for 2022, and EMU ranked 153rd among the universities included in the list in the world. EMU, which was in the 251-300 band last year, achieved a serious success by advancing in the rankings with great momentum. The ranking allows for comparison between younger institutions, especially in terms of publication, citation, quality of education and internationalization. In this ranking, EMU was ranked first in the TRNC, within the top three across the island, and fourth among Turkish universities.

Making a statement on the subject, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın expressed that they are proud to have EMU included in THE World University Rankings this year. Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın also emphasized that this success belongs to all EMU employees. Noting that EMU is among the best in the world as a state university, Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın pointed out that these rankings are a clear indication that EMU is on the right track with the quality of education it offers to its students, quality research opportunities and community service efforts. Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın also thanked all EMU staff who made this achievement possible and underlined that the university will continue with its rapid development and growth.
