CMPE 598 Graduate Seminar Course
Time-Schedule for 2005-06 Spring Semester.
Coordinator: Dr.M.Bodur

WEEKLY HOMEWORK : Registered Students shall submit a half-page homework after each research topic presentation. Follow the link for the contents and format requirements.

This course is compulsory for all MS students and it is conducted in a series of seminars. Methodology of scientific/engineering research, professional ethics, importance of M. Sc. thesis as a research medium, and contribution of such activity to the University, to community, and to the individual will be stressed. An overview of departmental facilities useable in conducting thesis will be given. Departmental research interests can be surveyed through summary presentations by the faculty and where suitable actual thesis presentations by new/would-be graduates. The course is prepared to introduce the new MS students to ways and means of engineering research by presenting the departmental research facilities, and the research interests of the faculty. It will acquaint the students with the information on how to prepare research presentations and publications. Main objective is to establish a base for breaking into research areas in the department and prepare for presentation.

/ (pdf) "End system multicast for multimedia streaming" End system multicast (ESM) is a new multicasting technique that tries to by-pass problems existing in traditional IP multicasting. In comparison with IP multicast, ESM is implemented at the application layer of systems that are involved in multicast communication. The main advantage of ESM is a relatively easy deployment in the current Internet, without the need to make any changes in existing routers.

Teaching Policy

Talks will be delivered in seven seminar meetings by the faculty members. The attendance of CMPE598 students are compulsory. Additionally each student is expected to select a prospect subject of interest in preparing short reports and presentation according to the format and criteria covered during the course. Student's homework-exercises will be collected and going to be submitted to the student's future supervisor.
