Department of Computer Engineering at Eastern Mediterranean University was established in 1993. It is a new and dynamic department that had its first graduates in 1997. The number of students has grown over the years and reached more than 1100 undergraduate students in 2001. By September 2008, we have 694 registered students in our department including undergraduate, graduate, and preparatory school students. Starting from Fall Semester of 2008-2009 Academic Year, the Software Engineering program that has been approved by the Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK) has started to take its new students. We have totally 22 well qualified teaching staff from Russia, France, Palestine, Turkey, and TRNC holding Ph.D. degree. Taking these numbers into account, our department is the biggest department among the departments in EMU, universities in TRNC and Turkey. In order to create an ideal atmosphere for students to have good lecture opportunity and good practice applications, we are equipped with 10 classrooms and 14 software and hardware laboratories, respectively. There is Internet access in all classrooms and laboratories. All classrooms and laboratories have been equipped with multimedia presentation facilities. A Wi-Fi area is prepared for the students who may wish to use their laptops for connecting the internet through a wireless medium. During the 4 year undergraduate education, nearby the courses from fields of Computer Software, Computer Hardware, and Computer Networks, our department provides Mathematics, Physics, English, Economy, etc. to our students. Current curriculum is updated with general education and recent subjects of our fields in the scope of the ABET rules and it is approved by the Senate in the Spring 2005. With our new curriculum we are aiming to provide higher quality education to our students. EMU Computer Engineering graduates are easily accepted by the firms in TRNC and Turkey; and successfully continue their M.Sc. and Ph.D. graduate studies in local and international universities.
