Importance: High Hi all, The program of the SWD Open House has been distributed by EMU Postmaster. Judging by the positive reaction I've received so far, there is been great interest among faculty in the campus. From ancient castles to DNS, the wide variety of subject areas you're going to talk is quite attractive. Undoubtedly many people will come to listen to YOUR presentations. Please prepare your presentation of case study as best as you can. I suggest that you take at the most 25 minutes so that we could proceed according to the schedule. In any case, try maintain the schedule by shortening or extending your talk. In the line of guidance, I'd advise you to use your time as follows. It'd go without saying that you should organize your talk as you see it fit. Here is my suggestion on how you'd spend your time: - 5 minutes: the case- introduce the platform and technologies you utilized. - 10 minutes: your case study- introduce your scenario, explain your work, show and compare results obtained, and discuss merits of your (semantic web) approach. Make sure that the audience learns from your findings. - 5 minutes: live demo! Expect another e-mail from me on this issue. - 5 minutes: Q&A- invite audience to speak up; in responding to questions, show that you're interested. In case there may not be questions, however, you should prepare 1-2 slides to bring about a point of further interest in your topic. Place these beyond the "Questions, please?" slide. If you won't have time you woudn't show them. One last reminder: in your talk do not emphasize CmpE 583 and the fact that you're doing the talk towards partial fullfilment of the course requirements. Audience knows that already. Think of yourself as explaining your recent scientific discovery; try to convince the audience! I wish you a successful presentation and warm greetings.
